If armbands for you phone or MP3 player aren’t for you, maybe you’d prefer to carry your gear on your chest.  With the  Power Pouch Long Tank from Gracie’s Gear, you’ll have a three-compartment zippered pocket on your chest that can hold your phone, MP3 player, key, ID, or whatever you take with you.  The pocket is on the outside, so it will be easy to reach your gear when you need it.  The shirt prevents chafing with its higher neck and roomier armholes, and the A-line styling prevents them from riding up as you move.  There’s even a loop on the shoulder that functions as an earphone cord controller.  They also offer a sports bra with a zippered pocket.  Gracie’s Gear is a successfully-funded Kickstarter project.  You can pre-order the long tanks and sports bras is now.  Shipping is expected in May, 2014.

  2. A little more convenient, cheaper, and with more choices for styles are the shirts I’ve been using for years as workout clothing—bike shirts.

They’ve got pockets, some with zippers, but at the back, so you don’t look silly with a big chest and a third square breast.

There are usually three separate pockets, but sometimes only two.

They come in tank, short, and long sleeved fashions.

    Tons of patterns and colors.

    Loads of cheap options.

Available right now online or at your local bike store.

With a long back so it never rides up. (Think about how bicyclists ride leaning forward and you’ll see the shirts don’t ride up.)

I’m surprised more runners and exercisers don’t buy them.

I agree: bike jerseys look much better and are better designed for exercise. I ride a lot so I have a few to choose from. I use mine for tennis and they works fabulously. Most have zippers in front so you have a bit of ventilation control unlike the thing pictured above. The pockets in the back are fabulous because they don’t get in the way as there is a natural tapering of most human bodies around that area.

There is a drawback. If you sweat a fair amount, your phone will get a bit damp. I imagine the same thing happens with the pocket in front. It’s not a big deal and there are simple solutions for it if it bothers you,

  4. JV,

I never noticed the sweat factor. But I’m sure there are solutions.

Tennis would be great as the back pockets can hold the extra balls.
