If you’re a fan of the Ghost Hunters and Finding Bigfoot TV shows, you are already familiar with thermal imaging cameras. For those of you who don’t watch those shows, a thermal imaging camera otherwise known as a FLIR, makes invisible heat sources visible to our eyes. FLIR cameras are traditionally very expensive pieces of equipment starting at $1000. But now you can add thermal imaging capability to your iPhone 5/5S with the FLIR ONE camera case.

FLIR ONE™ is a non-contact device that detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image on your phone screen and perform temperature calculations. Heat sensed by an infrared camera can be very precisely measured, allowing you to use the FLIR ONE™ in a variety of practical and fun ways by revealing a thermal world not visible to the unaided eye.

The FLIR ONE lets you see in total darkness, and through smoke. It can display temps in a range from 32 °F to 212 °F (O °C to 100 °C). In addition to using it to find wandering spirits and a Yeti, you can use the FLIR ONE for other fun and practical uses such as:

  • Finding wet areas and leaks in ceilings, walls, and floors
  • See spots left behind by pet accidents
  • Security while camping or hiking at night
  • See heat loss around windows and doors

The iPhone 5/5S version of the FLIR ONE will be available this spring for less than $350 and for select Android models later this year.
