ClamCase has been making keyboard cases for the full-sized iPad since the first model, and now they have just announced the ClamCase Pro iPad Mini Keyboard Case. It’s compatible with both the original mini and the new mini with Retina display.  This tiny ClamCase has the same features and functions as its bigger siblings but weighs only 0.87 pounds – less than 1.5 pounds with the iPad mini included. Its “enhanced soft-touch 360˚ hinge provides incredible versatility and makes it easy to switch between laptop, tablet, stand, and back. A hard polycarbonate and bead-blasted aluminum enclosure completely surrounds the iPad mini, offering protection on all sides.”  It has a full QWERTY keyboard (with special iPad-specific keys) that pairs easily with the iPad mini and is smart enough to turn itself off when the case is put into the tablet mode.  Opening the case wakes the mini and turns the keyboard on.  The hinge allows you full freedom.  You can use the iPad mini in “laptop” mode, or fold it into a stand for watching video and using the touchscreen, or you can fold the keyboard completely behind the iPad for one-handed use.  The rechargeable battery gives you 100 hours of uninterrupted typing time or 6 months of standby power.

The ClamCase Pro iPad Mini Keyboard Case is $129.00 and is expected to ship in February 2014.

  2. This is the first time I’ve heard of this company, and I love it!!! I have one of the original ZAGG keyboards, but I’ve never been overly happy with it. The case that went with it wasn’t great, and now it just sits on my shelf at home. Wish I could do a trade it for the new Pro.
