It might be hard to believe, but National Geographic has been around for 125 years. To celebrate this important milestone, they sent one of their award winning photographer’s Stephen Alvarez on an incredible ten day 2112 mile journey across the American west. Stephen didn’t pack a collection of bulky cameras and lenses for this trip though. His only camera for the adventure was a Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone. Well, when you have a 41MP camera built into a smartphone, you  don’t need a full-sized DSLR and a collection of telephoto lenses to capture worthy images of your adventures. Right? Yeah, I wasn’t so sure either, until I watched Stephen’s video journal of the trip and viewed some of the stunning images that he captured along the way. View Alvarez’ journey here: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/nokia/ and experience his trip through photo galleries with zoomable images, video and an interactive map of the locations where he stopped for photo opportunities in Arizona and Utah.

The Nokia Lumia is an impressive camera that offers 41 megapixels – far more than any smartphone currently on the market. This device also features a Carl Zeiss lens, optical image stabilization, Xenon flash and high-resolution zoom that allows you to zoom in, crop an area and make a new photo without sacrificing image quality. It can also capture HD video with distortion free, stereo sound. And don’t forget, the Lumia 1020 isn’t just a camera, it’s a smartphone as well.
