My heart skipped a couple beats when I first saw the 3D Metal Mechanized Playing Cards from artist Dale Mathis. I absolutely love gears and Steampunk style art, so I was very interested in learning more about Dale’s Kickstarter project. First of all, the Tuck Box (the box that holds the playing cards) is the 3D Mechanical part. The cards themselves are NOT metal except for ONE. It’s in the back of the deck and magnetizes it to the optional display frame thus causing it to become mechanical. Sounds confusing but you have to watch the video to fully understand. Dale’s Kickstarter project has already surpassed the $35,000 goal by over $65,000. A minimum pledge of $25 will pre-order one deck with shipping due in February – March 2014.

  2. Well…you need to come to MA in May when the town of Waltham hosts their Steampunk festival…we got a preview of it last year when we went to a local craft show:

Not only were there tons of amazing steampunk works of art, but the visitors all get into the spirit with some pretty inventive outfits 🙂

    1. @Rainy I’ve been to Waltham a couple of times for training at MatrixOne (for my day job). That festival looks really cool. I’ll have to put that on my list for potential vacation ideas for next year. 🙂
