A couple months ago, we told you about Amazon’s new Kindle MatchBook service, which will give you access to eBook versions of paper books you bought from them in the past.  Whether you bought them years ago or last week, you can get the eBook version for no more than $2.99, and some may be free – if they are on the eligible list at all.  You’ll be able to search your purchase history to find the books that are eligible.  I’ve been buying from Amazon from almost the first day they were open for business, and I’ve bought lots of books from them.  Unfortunately, only nine of the books I’ve purchased over the years are available for the program, and all nine of them will cost the maximum charge of $2.99.  Hopefully they’ll be adding more books soon.  The MatchBook purchases are personal to you and cannot be gifted or transferred to another person; it doesn’t apply to used books or books from 3rd party sellers.  You’ll also be able to purchase a MatchBook edition with future purchases of paper books, when they are available.  Read more at Amazon’s MatchBook page, and you can check to see which of your past purchase are eligible while you’re there.

  2. I’ve been buying books extensively from Amazon since 1998, in multiple genres, both fiction and nonfiction. Guess how many of those dozens (hundreds?) of books are eligible: one.

    Hope the offering improves.
