The Adapt Bluetooth Headphone Adapter from Outdoor Tech is slightly misnamed.  It doesn’t just work with headphones and earbuds; it can work with any speakers or device with a 3.5mm audio-in jack.  When you use it with your headphones or earbuds, you’ll convert your standard headphones into Bluetooth gear.  Simply clip the Adapt to your clothing, and you can listen to music or take phone calls while your phone stays safely in your pocket or bag.  You can shorten up your cord so that your arms don’t get tangled up or so you don’t snag the cord on things as you pass by.  The built-in microphone has noise reduction and echo cancellation for clear calls.  The rechargeable lithium-polymer battery gives you 5-6 hours of playback or 150 hours of standby between charges.  The buttons on the Adapt allow you to control playback of your audio source or to answer calls.  It has A2DP Bluetooth profile for high quality stereo sound streaming and AVCRP to control track and volume remotely; it pairs and reconnects easily with your phone.  It has the same rugged, rubbery coating used in many of Outdoor Tech’s line, and it’s available in black, blue, pink, orange, or yellow for $39.95.

  2. How does it charge? I can’t find a charging port in the picture? This unit looks pretty cool, I just hope it uses Micro or mini USB. I refuse to buy any products now that require a 3rd party or proprietary charging port. Have to pack too light now.

  3. I had a sony ericsson pendant like this that I really liked until the plastic clip broke off.

According to amazon reviews it doesn’t have a standard micro/mini usb jack. But the charging cable is usb.

  4. I didn’t even know this product category existed. With the right headphones, this could really transform my cubicle into a very personal space.

  5. Hmm, you’re right. It charges through the headphone port… Kinda cool, but makes it hard for my use.

I have a beautiful 20th Anniversary Mac. What to do with it? No ethernet, no use, basically just a glorified speaker at this point, and with this I could make it a bluetooth speaker, but I can’t keep the adapter charged in this scenario.
