If you have houseplants, you’ve most certainly experienced the tragedy and self blame that comes along when your neglect causes their untimely demise. You don’t have to be a plant killer anymore, the Moistly easy to use plant buddy is here to help you. What is it? It’s a sensor that will beep and blink when you need to water your plants. Unlike other plant gadgets (see related links below), this one doesn’t have to connect to your WiFi and doesn’t have to be setup or charged every other day. It is powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery that lasts for 2yrs. The device is stuck in the soil next to a plant. When the plant needs water, Moistly senses this and starts to bleep and blink by playing a short melody and flashes a green LED light to alert you. It helps keep plants alive-and-kicking by preventing under and over watering. The only thing I worry about is being awakened in the middle of the night by a thirsty plant… If your plants are crying out for help, you can pre-order a Moistly now for $18. The regular price will be $20 each after October 15th.

  2. Of course…what will be cool if these sensors can send a notification to the smartphone of the person who should be coming by to water the plants while one is away!

  3. Needs to play the death toll for sound. I never understood those “smart” devices to remind the forgetful to water plants that required charging every few days. If I can’t water the damn thing, I’ll probably forget to charge it.

  4. It would of been better if there was a water reservoir attach to the unit so it would water the plant for you. It will only blinks/beeps when it out of water.

  5. Well there is water reservoir that been sold at Lee Valley tools for last 2-5 yrs now (http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=49752&cat=2,2280,54307,49752 or http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=45295&cat=2,2280,54307,45295 or this http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=53941&cat=2,2280,54307,53941) as I mention before, it would be good to combine the to so it will water the plant when it requires and then blink/beep when the reservoir is empty.

  6. What has this world come to?

I recently saw a water bottle that reminds you to drink. What’s next? A bracelet that reminds you when to go to the toilet?

I love gadgets, but this is really stupid. I killed a lot of plant in my life. The real reason was I wasn’t ready to take care of them and they didn’t meant enough to me. But when the time come that I wanted to have plants, I don’t forget to water them. There are way around that, like setting a watering schedule and make it a routine. It’s like meditation in a way, really good for you: doing simple things taking care of things that’s alive and taking a break from the virtual reality.
