We’ve all seen the variety of fitness monitors for humans on the market today, and now FitBark is extending the monitoring to your dog. This Kickstarter project has already met more than 200% of its funding goal, but you have until Aug 26, at 3:00pm EDT to pledge to be sure your dog is one of the first to receive a FitBark activity monitor. The small, waterproof, bone-shaped monitor attaches to your dog’s collar and sends information to a nearby smartphone about Fido’s activity. If he won’t always be in close proximity to someone with a smartphone, you can add the base station so he can send you information while he’s home alone. (By the way, the FitBark doesn’t have a GPS, so it won’t help you find a lost pet.) The FitBark uses the same APIs that human fitness monitors use, so you can use the FitBark’s app to monitor the activity levels of your whole family in one location. A minimum pledge of $59 gets you a FitBark and the free monitoring app; $99 gets you the FitBark, Base Station, and free app. Shipments are expected to begin in December 2013.
