TomTom puts GPS tech into 2 new fitness watches

The popularity of fitness bands and watches is currently at an all time high. Everyone wants to know how they measure up with their daily step count, running distance, and other health stats. One of the newest fitness watches to show up on the scene is from what I thought was an unlikely company – TomTom. Long known for their GPS navigation devices, they are now getting in on the watch market with their new Runner and Multi-Sport GPS watches. GPS watches are not exactly new for them though, as they have powered Nike+ GPS watches. But the new Runner and Multi-Sport are all their own.

Featuring a large high resolution display, the watches have a one button navigation control that has been designed to allow for easy menu navigation. The watches also feature QuickGPSFix technology that finds your precise location quickly so you can get moving faster than before. The Runner watch can even track your run indoors on a treadmill. The Multi-Sport watch is for the uber-athlete as it can track (with optional sensors) your swimming, running and cycling activities.

The Multi-Sport watch starts at $199.99 and goes up to $299.99 if you want to trick it out with the heart rate monitor, swim sensor and bike mount. If running is your main activity, the Runner watch starts at $169.99 and goes up to $219.99 with the heart rate monitor.
