Look in the believe-it-or-not category at the Bed Bath & Beyond website, and you’ll find the 8″ Power Bed Riser.  I don’t mean it’s a powered lift like hospital beds use.  It’s a set of rubber blocks that lift the bed higher off the floor.  You can buy those (normal) rubber blocks anywhere, and they are useful to lift your bed up so you can use the area underneath for extra storage.  The 8″ Power Bed Riser not only lifts your bed eight inches, but one of them actually has “twin 110-volt, 15-amp grounded power outlets, as well as twin USB 5-volt DC outlets with charging light for convenient charging of handheld devices” and a 6-ft long power cable.  They come in a set of four, with one powered riser for $24.95.

    1. It wouldn’t be too bad if you have a long comforter that goes to the floor to cover the blocks. One thing that comes to mind would be a trip hazard from the cords. Otherwise, I agree that it is a neat idea.

  2. The bed risers are almost standard equipment in most dorm rooms so this adds quite a bit of functionality for not much more money. It might be worth it to allow the AC cord to come out the same side as the outlets so you can face them all in and not kick them all the time…

  3. I can see it working fairly well for the common situation where you have an outlet centered behind the bed and you want to plug in something from your nightstand. (And the cords wouldn’t even be a problem in that case – the current layout is ideal.)
