Google Maps Waze

On Google’s official blog, Google has acquired Waze, the popular community-based traffic and navigation app for iOS and Android.

To help you outsmart traffic, today we’re excited to announce we’ve closed the acquisition of Waze. This fast-growing community of traffic-obsessed drivers is working together to find the best routes from home to work, every day.

Waze is a great map tool, since it’s community driven, which means users can report in traffic jams, hazardous conditions, route changes, and any other issues that other users might need to know.

This is great news in my eyes as I always use both Google Maps and Waze when I drive around, and wish the two were one in the same app.

  2. Wow! That was quick! Where I live in Santiago de Chile there has never been a traffic indicator on Google Maps. Now they have purchased Waze traffic is on the native Google Maps app! Great stuff!

  3. Yeah, this is awesome. I use both Waze and Google Maps. I prefer the simple interface of Google Maps, but I like the up-to-the-minute traffic conditions and always-to-date crowd-sourced data that Waze provides. Now I can look forward to seeing both in the same app! Cheers!

  4. Cool beans. Just 7 days ago I was using Google Maps for bicycle friendly directions. I checked Waze first but no bike routes and the prescribed route was way unfriendly for cyclists. ;-S I like the Waze simpler maps and UI. Win Win. Hope I don’t think of a “lose” in the next 24 hrs.
