Moleskine notebooks were available in lined, blank, and grid versions, and you had to choose the one that best fit your needs.  Now, Moleskine is anticipating your needs and has designed the Professional series of notebooks.  Moleskine says their Professional notebook “is created for professionals, combining the features of a planner and a notebook, with space to organize projects, take notes and keep track of deadlines and appointments.”  These notebooks have numbered pages and an index section, detachable to-do lists, a project planning section to track priorities and deadlines, adhesive tabs so you can create dividers for multiple projects or project phases, and spine labels to identify a notebook by project.

Professional hardcover notebooks are available in black in Large (5″ x 8 ¼”) or Extra Large (7 1/2″ x 10″).  I found them in the local Staples store, and Levenger is offering them online.  Prices range from about $22 to $27.  (Click the image for a bigger view.)

  2. They’d be better off putting proper paper in them instead of the cheap rubbish they use which precludes fountain pens.

I use Ciak (expensive) and Muji (dirt cheap) both soft backed.

@eddt My husband came home from our trip to Staples with an Extra Large notebook. He’s in project management heaven! 😉

  4. Izzy: you are right, the Moleskine paper is porous, resulting in fountain pen ink coming through to the page’s other side. I bought 2, but will buy no more. Try the excellent pads from Rhodia and Clairefontaine (the latter being the parent company of the former), which use thicker paper. Alas, they are expensive.

  5. This Moleskine Professional Notebooks looks good especially if you want something nice and formal to write on. But I agree with the others, it needs better paper. You need to use a regular or light-inked pen so you can use it without wasting paper.
