15yrstech

The Verizon Wireless Midwest Area blog wants to celebrate The Gadgeteer’s 15 years covering the tech industry and asked me to write up my top 15 moments in the last decade and a half. So I put in my thinking cap (no, it doesn’t have a propeller on top) and came up with some of the products and services that have influenced me and many others. In addition to posting my article, they are also hosting a sweepstakes giveaway from Monday, December 3 – Friday, December 7 on to give away a brand new 4G LTE DROID DNA by HTC (approximate retail value of $599.99). To enter, leave a comment on the Verizon blog post telling us your favorite tech moment out of my top 15. Include your email address and/or Twitter handle in the comment so they can notify you if you’re the winner.  On Monday, December 10, they will randomly choose one person who commented to receive the prize.

One entry per person will be accepted (multiple comments will not count as multiple entries), and the winner must respond within one week (Monday, December 17) to claim his/her prize. The sweepstakes is open to legal U.S. residents 18 years or older. Please read the complete rules for additional eligibility guidelines. Enter the contest here.

  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. Well, though the requirements didn’t require much (and not like adding more to comments will help with a random drawing), I did wanna thank and congratulate ya for all ya do and have done… Way to keep folks informed for .15 centuries! 😀

  3. I’m gonna have to go with the PalmPilot 1000! It was a game changer for me when I got one when they first came out. …and, I still have it on a shelf!

    1. Make sure you also leave a comment over on the article on Verizon’s site if you want an entry for the contest 🙂 The comments left here won’t be counted…

  4. After a series of Casio and Sharp organisers, my Palmpilot 1000 really was a game changer with its 128KB memory and touch screen. I even upgraded it to the 512KB memory module. Think that might have been what first lead me to The Gadgeteer as well 🙂

  5. For me, it would be two things. First, my Palm Vx, my very first PDA. I have owned a Vx, IIIc, Clie, Casio EM-500, Palm T-5. Second would be my Kindle. Got my first Kindle, a Kindle 2, as a birthday gift in January 2010. I have to say it is my favorite device.

  6. The original PalmPilot. It was just really cool and Palm made some great products that were unfortunately eclipsed by other lesser machines.

  7. The Slingbox is the best gadget to have come along in years. Attaching this gadget between your cable box, cable modem and computer enables you to watch your TV programming any place in the world where there is an internet or WIFI signal on any device such as your cell phone, iPad, tablets, etc.

  8. Hopefully there’s no email harvester visiting that Verizon blog. I’ve seen an uptick of spam (yeah, it’s in the junk folder, but still) recently, and sorta wish there had another way to let folks be contacted without having info like that in easy-to-find comments.

  9. My mom still has the old RAZR flip phone on Verizon. It still boggles my mind how she could get this far without a smart phone and she even works in the tech industry. The HTC DNA would make an awesome present for her this Christmas!

  10. Best Moment: When you started this site! I have been looking at this site at least once a day since you started so many years ago. The world revolved around Palm Pilot at the time, boy we have come far since then.
