satechi strip and pocket usb hubsThese two new USB hubs from Satechi won’t add much bulk to your travel gear, but they’ll give you four additional USB 2.0 ports for connecting your devices to your computer (Windows 98SE /ME /2000 /XP /Vista /7, Mac OS 9.1 or above, or Linux 2.4 or above) or to game consoles.  Both hubs have bus overvoltage protection to protect your computer if one of the attached USB devices short circuits, and both are plug-and-play, hot swappable, and hot pluggable and have transfer rates up to 480Mbps.  The Pocket Hub (top photo) is 1.9″ X 1.9″ X 0.5″ and weighs 1.4 ounces; its USB cable stows away inside and it has blue LEDs to show status.  The Strip Hub also has a USB cable that stows inside and a blue LED power light; it measures 0.7″ X 0.7″ X 3.3″ and weighs 0.9 ounce.  Both are available at Satechi or at Amazon for $9.99 each.

  2. @joel perlish It says it works with Macs running OS X 9.1 and above. I don’t know why it wouldn’t work with the MacBook Air.

  3. thanks, janet… i don’t know why it wouldn’t work either…. BUT the satechi site writes about the product a whole list of products it works with: “Satechi Ultra Portable 4 Port USB Strip for Acer Aspire, ASUS Zenbook,A53E,N53SM, HP Folio,G7, Lenovo G570, Samsung Series, Sony E Series, and Dell Inspiron”
—- and this clearly leaves OUT the mac air…. hmmm… what do you think? for ten bucks i guess it’s worth the gamble??? joel

ps. i JUST called the company – which i guess i should have done first – anyway, the fellow said it WOULD work with the mac air, and if it didn’t he give me my money back…..

  4. Good deal, Joel! I did notice they didn’t mention any Apple computers in that list, which is opposite of what normally seems to be the case. If it will work for an iPad or iPhone, most companies say it’s an “iPad widget” when it works equally well for everything else, too.

Hope it works well for you!
