camhoodie fromLike all lenses, the iPhone 5’s camera can experience lens flare, resulting in a purple haze in photos.  Lens flare is, according to Wikipedia, “light scattered in lens systems through generally unwanted image formation mechanisms, such as internal reflection and scattering from material inhomogeneities in the lens.”  All lenses can have it, but more expensive lenses can reduce it with coatings or even simply by using a lens hood.  The camHoodie Lens Hood Case from Fotodiox, a camera and photo studio accessories seller, uses a small lens hood to help reduce lens flare.  The case has a black bumper around the edges and a clear back plate that protects the back of the phone while holding the small, black rubbery ring in place around the lens.  It won’t completely eliminate lens flare, but it does promise to reduce it. There are two videos and some example photos on the camHoodie page to show how it works.  The camHoodie is available now for $24.95.
