BN Nook HD+

It started with the Amazon Kindle Fire, then came the Google Nexus 7, the Kobo ARC, and the Amazon Kinde Fire HD and HD 8.9.  The next entrants in the low cost Android-based tablets battle has just been released by Barnes and Noble.

The Nook HD is a 7″ tablet  running at 1440 x 900 and is capable of running 720p video. It uses a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor and includes a micro-SD slot and HDMI port. It comes snow or smoke; each color is available in 8GB for $199 or 16GB for $229.

The Nook HD+ is  a 9″ tablet running at 1920 x 1280 and is capable of full 1080p video. It runs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with micro-SD slot and HDMI port. Barnes and Noble claims it’s the lightest Full HD 9″ tablet available at 18.2 oz  (515 g).   It comes in 16GB for $269 and 32GB  for $299.  It is only available in a slate color.

Both units run Barnes and Noble’s customised version of Android (version unknown) and are available for pre-order from Barnes and Noble, with shipping starting November 1st.

  2. Yes, they are priced better and may be thinner and lighter, but I honestly don’t think they have the same content level Amazon does. I also think that Amazon tends to have better book prices on average. Of course I am saying this as a long time Amazon customer who has already invested a lot of money in that company for ebooks.

  3. Not to be too picky about the article, but the Nook has been around before the Fire or Nexus tablet. B & N has been in the tablet segment longer than either of them and this is their third revision to their tablet line, as opposed to the second revision Fire and first generation Nexus.

  4. The Nook has a micro sd slot which means that there will be sd cards created to sell that have the pure android OS. I have a nook color with androuid 2.3 running from the sd card. I can use either the native Nook interface or the Android interface whenever I want. I love it that nooks come with sd card slots!

  5. Decisions decisions… Why can’t the make it with a camera in the front or the back… Like the SD card slot that the Kindle lacks!
I imagine someone will find a way to sideload apps onto their system.
