Who’s still got mixed party tapes that you made up in the 80’s and you haven’t gotten around to getting the digital equivalents (or can’t find digital equivalents :))? The Cassette to iPod Converter from Ion makes it easy to convert those old tapes, complete with pops, clicks and hiss. 🙂  Simply load the free app, insert your cassette, plug in your iPhone or iPod touch and press play.  You can even still listen to your tapes via the audio output jack.  The converter will work with Windows PCs as well.  It’s probably smaller than some of the original Walkmans at 4.5 x 3.25 x 1.25 and weighing 8 oz. 🙂

It’s available at B&H Photo for $69.99.

  2. Or hit up a company that can help you play your cassette tape in your car’s CD player, if it still has one of those southtree.com/cassettes-to-cd-service

  3. Of course this device will only work with one iphone device. I’m sure it’s not compatible with the new uberjack on the iphone 5. 😀

  4. Cassette? Common. Who on earth is still having cassettes? I got rid of mine about 20 years ago 😛

The quality of such a conversion must be way beyond acceptable. You can get 80’s CD-samplers for a few bucks. Remastered without acoustic noise.

  5. I wonder if they will make it work the the other way. Like the old TRS-80, Save your apps to tape. and restore them. 😀

    Memories.

  6. I have tried several (other) tiny-ish cassette players. 90% of the time, these things have motors which are grossly underpowered. Often I have found an older 90 minute cassteet might speed down 30-40% in the course of play, which makes it useless. Would be nice to hear actual experience with this or a similar unit. Have a stack of original cassettes Id love to transfer. Looking….

  7. In Australia, companies like DVD Infinity can transform pretty well any old audio (1/4″ audio reels, micro and mini cassettes, shellac records, DAT and ADAT tapes, etc) to digital (CD, MP3, WAV, ipod, etc).
