Sony Announces New Android-Powered Walkman

sony f800 mp3 playerSony has announced the F800 series Walkman Mobile Entertainment Players, powered by Android 4.0.  The F800 series have a 3.5″ multitouch screen and an NVIDIA® Tegra® 2 dual-core processer.  It comes pre-loaded with a variety of apps, including mail and maps.  The integrated S-Master™ digital amplifier enriches sound while reducing noise and distortion.  The F800 has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and they come with a pair of premium earbuds.  The F800 series will be available in August and will cost $269.99 for 16GB or or $299.99 for 32GB.  Read Sony’s press release for more details.

  2. Walkman age is over. Even the iPod age is over now. I’m not sure if anyone would buy these things when we have smartphones and tablets.

    @roshan Devices like this – little tablet computers, in effect – are great for kids who want a tablet. They are cheaper, but some of them can do most, if not all, of the things the bigger tablets can do.

  4. Yeah, I agree with @Janet – if this is full-featured Android machine, it could grab a bit of the iPod Touch market. Those things are the gateway drug to the iPhone for pre-teens who are not yet trusted with a full smartphone. I have many customers who get iPod Touches for grandkids, just so they can FaceTime or Skype with them whenever the kid is in Wifi range. If this SONY device packs that type capability, it’ll grab some interest. If it’s just a touch-enabled iPod music=playing wannabe, then, yes, as @Kryptik states, “That ship has sailed!”
