Sony has just given the world a quick peek on their blog site of their entry into the POV action camera market.  There’s not a lot of specifications yet except “ it houses Sony’s hallmark SteadyShot®image stabilization technology, Exmor® R CMOS image sensor, and an ultra-wide angle Carl Zeiss® Tessar® lens.”

  2. Bob, have a look at what seems to be the never ending POV cameras out there on the market at the moment. Pretty much all of them will at least do timed shots though none of them will do “proximity” type shots yet like the sensecam. They all have around 170 degree FOV and are small and portable. There’s so many brand name ones already out and more coming out to try and get a share of the market. And if you’re not worried about the brand name, even my favourite cheapo gadget fix site dx.com has similar units.

  3. I will wait until SONY POV come out first before I can make decision to upgrade from my old Gopro Hero 1, if there have 1080 60p, I will go for it, if not, Gopro Hero 2 for sure…

  4. @Machiel, it’ll be interesting what specs it does have. It’s a lot more aerodynamic than the GoPros but I think the kicker will be what accessories are available. The GoPros have such a wide range of accessories both OEM and from third parties. The picture quality will be interesting on the Sony as well, oh and of course, being a Sony, the price 😛
