The net has been buzzing about the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display since it was announced at WWDC earlier this week. Although it’s tempting to buy one, I’m sticking with my 13″ Macbook Air until Apple offers an Air with a Retina Display. For me the MBA is the perfect combination of size, weight and power. Apple also updated the MBAs this week, but if you want to save some cash, you should check out the deals at B&H Photo on older models. They are offering the 13″ Apple Macbook Air for $1049, which includes free shipping and $59 of free software. If you want something smaller, they are offering the 11″ Apple Macbook Air for $949, which includes free shipping and $59 of free software.  (affiliate links)

  2. Well, Julie. I don’t know. It really depends on what you need it for. If you need something that’s going to be your main device, then you need to go with MacBook Pro. But in case you just need something portable to be able to work while you’re not at your main computer, sure thing an Air fits the bill. 🙂 At least that’s my point of view.

    1. @Vince I use my MBA for about 75% of my gadgeteer work. My 27 inch iMac is still my preferred computer for image editing. But the MBA is great for everything else and if I am sitting at a desk and have a mouse attached, the MBA is fine for image editing too. If / when my iMac dies, I’ll most likely use a laptop as my main device and a MBA might be my choice. By that time, they will have Retina displays 🙂

  3. I’m with Julie here. The difference between the Air vs Pro is really minor.

Pro = better display, better processor, better graphics
Air = half the weight, half as thick

Very few people use the processor and graphics chip to their fullest capacity. Only FPS gamers and photoshoppers max out their computers; everyone else is better off trading that in for a much more portable laptop.

    1. @thsu I actually use Photoshop on my MBA 🙂 I just prefer to do all my Photoshop work on my iMac because it has a 27″ display and it’s easier to edit photos using a mouse instead of the touch pad. 99.9% of the time I use my MBA on my lap. So using a mouse with it isn’t really possible unless I also used it with a tray of some sort.
