rock lock

Many years ago someone invented a cable lock system that protected your bicycle from theft. Not so long ago, Kensington took that idea and applied it to a cable that was designed to secure your laptop. Now we have another product that uses this basic same idea. It’s the Rock Lock for your guitar. It’s made in the USA of heavy-duty braided steel cable and a special locking clamp that fits across the guitar neck like a capo. The Rock Lock’s clamp has a 2-1/8″ wide by 7/8″ tall opening that has been designed to work with most 6 string acoustic and electric guitars. It will not work with Flamenco, Nylon string, or Spanish guitars but may work with some 12 string or bass guitars depending on the neck size. This device probably won’t prevent someone who is very determined (and has some heavy duty wire cutters) from stealing your instrument, but it should help discourage random grab and run type theivery. The Rock Lock is available for $49.95.

  2. Would anybody want to leave your instrument behind? Oh, I forgot there was violinist left her leased Stradivarius and got stolen.
But beside that, don’t you want to protect it with good case first?

  3. This does seem like a solution in search of a problem.

But I do suppose that some street musician might want to go to the bathroom or get some coffee without having to take their guitar along.

But I’m not too sure this is a big market.

  4. I understand street musician issue, but I had a friend of mine whose motorcycle was stolen along with chain, lock and bike rack city put it in for that matter. I would never leave my guitar behind even for restroom. 🙂

  5. I had my guitar collection stolen at night from my home while i was sleeping. Yes i have alarm system now but i will feel more at ease with my new guitar locked down when I am not home. $50 bucks doesnt seem like much when you loose some vintage guitars.
