To get the discount use the code within the parenthesis below.

The blog hints that there will be similar giveaways in the future. More information on the promotion is available here.

  2. There is a code within the parenthesis of each item that will lower the price. This is explained in the HP Blog I linked to at the end of the article.

  3. @wang They do state that the codes are only good until their inventories run out. You may want to follow the link I have to their blog and see if it’s just a problem or they have been depleted.

  4. The codes reached their limit long *Before* this silly story was reposted from another site. Ken, please check basic facts before you repost old, incorrect, news.

  5. @Jeff,
This offer was originally made public on the HP Blog on August 25 (linked at the end of the story). I thought I would share the news with others here and wrote the piece I did early yesterday morning (August 26) as I got the apps for our TouchPad. I think the story went live early today (not in my control) and when I learned the apps were sold out…I added an update informing people of that fact.
It’s still relevant though, as HP has said they will be offering more apps for free in the future.
What basic facts did I miss when I wrote the story?

  6. That’s really unfair for people that’s too busy to download it in the morning. We’re preparing for the hurricane over here. And how can an app be sold out?!?! It’s not even a physical item.

  7. Jack:

I don’t think it’s “sold out”, but they offered a limited number of “freebies”. Basically, “Free to the first 1000 orders” or some such.

  8. As of 6:00 PM PST, none of these apps are available for free. The error messages are: The offer has reached its limit and is no longer available. Quite frankly, that sucks, after having to put in the stupid codes to try. It would have behooved you to indicate that the offer was limited and also, when it ended. This does neither you nor HP any good, and creates ill will, giving something and then taking it away.

  9. @FeisterMeister Please read the whole article…especially the part labeled, “Update”. This was HP’s offer not mine nor this site’s. I saw it on the HP site and put up a blurb on it to spread the word. When I learned it was sold out I put the update at the end of the story. There’s also a link to the original HP blog that has all of the terms of their promotion. They will be doing future giveaways so you may want to check their blog of you’re interested.

  10. Wouldn’t the responsible thing be to just unpublish the article instead of having to deal with repeated posts about the apps no longer being free?

  11. @wang The people that take the time to read all three paragraphs get the link to the HP Blog and information that there will be future giveaways. I am going to highlight the Update though to make it more prominent.

  12. There are a lot of people in the UK that would like the opportunity to buy a Touch Pad for ninety nine bucks but they are still being sold here at full price 🙁
