iphone4 525 1Anybody looking to get an iPhone 4 with T-Mobile? Well now you can because Apple has unlocked iPhones for sale. Now unlocked iPhone 4s were floating around the internet for a while but never could you order one from Apple themselves, until now.

If you have the scratch, you can order  either Black or White 16 or 32gb models for $649.00 or $749.00 respectively. That’s pretty pricey but so is AT&T and Verizon.

It’s nice to have the option of not being locked to a carrier and locked in a contract at the same time.

But, would you pay that much for a phone?

    1. From What I understand that it can only be used with a Micro Sim Card. Which Apple says that you can get from your carrier. (provided they are a GSM and not CDMA carrier)

  2. It’s still a outrageous price, especially since 3gs are below $50 and the newer iphone is going to come up.

Thats what I was thinking too – What carrier provides microsims with having to actually cut them yourself.

blahhh its alll just one big business!

They’ve been available in the UK for a while – 32GB for $1000 (ÂŁ612). Oh, and they’ll throw in a bumper for only $43.

Joe – where can I get a $50 3GS? Here in the UK they go for $700 on the Apple web store (that’s for the whole 8GB).

Any time you feel hard done by in the land of the free have a look at the Apple UK store and count your blessings!

  5. This is really worthless in the US unless you travel internationally. An unlocked IPhone, like the iPad, does not have a radio capable of communicating with TMobile’s 3G network….so the best speed you’ll get is Edge.

  6. Why is it that a 32GB Unlocked costs $749 US in America, but in Australia it costs $999 which is worth $1068 US anyway?!

    1. The thing is the 3GS is only 50.00 when you are signing a contract, aaaand you are on AT&T. I couldn’t imagine paying that much for anything really. Not a tablet, not Phone, Not even a PC.

It only makes sense to buy one outright if you plan to use multiple sims in it or have multiple carriers that you could switch to. In Australia albeit the rest of the world, as noted, the outright cost is significantly higher so don’t whinge about the cheap price you have in the US! We also can get our iPhones unlocked by our carriers on our plans after about 6 months of being on a plan.
Then, of course, there is iPhone 5 Fever..

  8. Just in time for the AT&T/T-Mobile merger, which will reduce the number of US GSM carriers you can use it with back to one. (No, I don’t think they planned it that way, but the timing of the ending of whatever agreement they had with AT&T not to do that is really quite perfect 🙂

  9. Jeff,

Why Apple would want to allow their devices to run on TMobile’s network without 3G is a mystery. Apple always talks about user experience. I’ve seen an iPhone and tried my iPad on TMo’s edge network…it’s a horrid experience. Besides being slow…it would take the iPad 10 minutes to even find and lock-on to the TMobile Edge network…and that’s in areas where there was strong TMobile coverage.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t offer it, but they should warn potential customers about trying to use it with TMobile in the US.

    1. I honestly would still get it even if it was only on Edge, provided I didn’t have to pay an arm, leg and ear for the phone.
