Intel is planning to present its new chip “Sandy Bridge” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. One of the features they are planning to present is “visibly smart”. This feature will enable handling the entire encoding process of a movie in the CPU (including the DRM authentication). The enhanced security should help to persuade Hollywood studios to offer their content in a top-quality format (1080p) for the first time to PC users. On the other hand, it will be harder to convert these movies to a different format, unless the content provider will allow it. More details will be available at Intel booth at CES (picture above).
