zaggmate ipad case with keyboardThe people at ZAGG say you’ll wonder how you ever used your Apple iPad® without a ZAGGmate case.  The ZAGGmate cases are made of aircraft-grade aluminum with a bead-blasted, hard-anodized finish to match the iPad.  They are 9.75″ tall X 7.63″ wide.  A case fits on your iPad as a screen cover and adds 0.25″  or less (depending on the style) to the thickness of the iPad.  Take the ZAGGmate with keyboard (shown in the pictures) off the iPad to reveal the Bluetooth keyboard and stand.  The stand adjusts to different positions and can hold the iPad in either portrait or landscape orientation.  The keyboard has a 510 mAh rechargeable lithium polymer battery that should give you a few weeks of use between chargings.  There are special function keys that control music playback, volume, photo slideshow, home and search keys, and the like.  The ZAGGmate with keyboard will be $99.99.  It’s not available yet, but you can sign up at ZAGG to be notified when it is ready to order.  If you’d like an aluminum screen cover with a built-in stand but no keyboard, ZAGG will be offering one of those, too.  The ZAGGmate will adjust to 10 different angles for viewing or typing (on the on-screen keyboard) and will be $69.99 when it is available.  The ZAGGmate case will add 7 ounces to the weight of the iPad; the ZAGGmate with keyboard will add 12.8 ounces.

  2. It’s hard to see from the pics how the iPad attaches in the “closed” position… Does the iPad lie flat with the screen facing the Zagg keyboard?

  3. @Anson It looks like the ZAGGmate just slides down over the sides and fits over the screen and is held by friction. There was no picture showing that on the webpage, but you can watch videos there – one for the plain case and one for the case with keyboard.

  4. It looks quite appealing; one thing that might be an issue (besides keeping it IN the case w/o some kind of serious friction) is that you are typing “down” into the case to reach the keyboard. I.e. you see the raised corners, approximately right where one’s wrists might be if rested and trying to type. Seems like it might cut into your hands unless you got used to keeping your hands raised a bit.

  5. If I did’t want to carry around an extra 5.8 ounces (12.8 minus 7) could I substitute the Zaggmate (without keyboard) and leave the keyboard at home? Using instead the non-keyboard cover. Perhaps they could offer a Zaggmate with keyboard, plus the non-keyboard cover for a slightly higher cost?
