sony remote e1287595031150Sony has just announced a remote control for kids. The RM-KZ1 is splash proof and features locked down battery and programming compartments. It allows parents to control channel availability by programming up to seven “favorites” buttons. It also has a “volume limiting” feature that does not allow volume to be changed +/- 3 steps within 30 seconds. The RM-KZ1 can control up to two components (TV – Sat/Cable). Itl is currently available at Target Stores and online at both www.target.com for $14.99

  2. This really is a little goofy for a few reasons.

    1. Parental controls can/should be set at the box. Most quality cable and satellite services have pretty extensive parental controls.

    2. If a parent forgoes the parental controls and relies on this remote…what happens when junior changes channels on the box itself?

    3. (and most important) – Any child young enough to use a remote like this really should have an adult nearby monitoring what they’re viewing (or doing).
