Graphics tablets are much easier than trying to use a mouse, but I can still have trouble using tablets because of the disconnect between the tablet and the screen displaying my work. Wacom has a couple of interactive pen displays that let you work directly on an LCD screen. The new Cintiq 12WX has a 12.1″ widescreen TFT display. You can lay it flat on your desk or stand it using the integrated easel-back stand. It has a 6.5-ft cable, so you can even use it in your lap. The pen-on-paper feel of drawing on the Cintiq screen makes your work flow more quickly and easily. You can use the Wacom Cintiq as a stand-alone device or integrate it into “multi-monitor environments to supplement a primary display or to control other displays”. Wacom says “Cintiq 12WX delivers a highly sensitive pen-on-screen experience so you can work directly on your images and applications in the most natural way possible. With ‘pen-point’ accuracy, fast cursor control, and 1,024 levels of pressure-sensitivity on the pen tip and eraser, the Cintiq 12WX gives you increased control, comfort, and productivity.” The Cintiq 12wx is $999. There’s also a 21.3″ version, the Cintiq 21UX, with a bigger screen and more features to give you greater control over your drawing for $1999. The Cintiq devices work with Windows or Mac.
