thinkgeek remote switchThinkGeek is offering a remote control light switch that allows you to control a lamp without the expense of having a light switch installed.  You plug a module into a power socket, then plug a lamp into the module. Place the Instant Switch within 60 feet of the power module and you’ll be able to remotely flip the lamp on/off and adjust its brightness with the dimmer control.  I’ve seen a similar remote light switch designed by an artist with a metal switchplate enclosed in an acrylic box that starts at $150 – and it has no dimmer control.  ThinkGeek’s Instant Switch is a much smarter option at $24.95 – no electrician’s fees and no artist surcharges.

  2. You can also check your local hardware/home repair store. We bought ours at Menards five years ago for $15. Love it! We use it in our living room. One switch was mounted to the wall and then we keep the other switch on the table between our recliners. The Menards switch has a few different “channels” you can use so that you and your neighbor aren’t accidentally turning things on and off for each other.
