Wow, I sure didn’t see this one coming… It was announced today that HP will purchase Palm at a price of $5.70 per share of Palm common stock in cash or an enterprise value of approximately $1.2 billion. HP is not a company that even sprang to my mind when we heard that Palm were putting themselves up for sale 2 weeks ago. Does that mean that we’ll start seeing iPAQ smartphones running WebOS instead of Windows Mobile? Very interesting…

I wouldn’t count on HP to spark any innovation at Palm. As a former employee I gotta say they haven’t been innovative in long time. This marriage makes no sense to me. Does a 3rd tier smart phone vendor really think they can make a viable run at the market by acquiring another vendor on life support?
I’m hopeful. I love my palm, it’s fast stable, and does everything I need, want and umm. hehehehe Hack the snot out of. But it did come too late. I own the Palm New OS Promo t-shirts I got from the dev gathering in 2004. I was waiting for it since 2004. Too long.
It may be a long shot but…maybe HP’s new Slate could run WebOS to compete with the iPad. James Kendrick (Jkontherun) suggested a while ago that WebOS would be great on a slate device.
