bluetooth watch with caller idThinkGeek has a watch with Bluetooth 2.0 that pairs with your cellphone so you can see caller ID information right on your wrist without having to take your phone out of its case.  When your phone rings, the watch vibrates against your wrist to let you know you have a call.  There’s even a button on the watch to mute your phone’s ringer.  The caller ID is a 96 X 16 pixel OLED display.  The watch has a stainless steel case, a leather band, and a rechargeable battery.  It’s available for $69.99.

  2. About 9 months ago there were a few wrist bracelets like this that didn’t tell the time, but were supposed to vibrate and show the caller ID of the paired bluetooth phone.

I bought one. I paired it. I put my phone in my pocket and the bracelet around my wrist.

NOT A SINGLE PHONE CALL came through on the bracelet.

The concept is great. But not if it doesn’t work.

  3. I wished they’d make it standard that bluetooth watches vibrates and alerts you when the bluetooth connection to the phone as severed, that way it you accidently walk out of a resturant and leave your phone on the table, your watch will alert you and you can retrieve your precious iphone or whatever.

  4. By the time you look at your watch, notice you do want to answer the call, then go fumbling through your pocket to get your phone and answer… won’t you miss the call?

  5. I personally have the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Watch MBW-150 Executive Edition. Works great. Only down side is that it only works with Sony Ericsson phones. Must be a proprietary thing.

  6. I have a Sony C905 and the executive MBW-150 (which is Sony version of the same watch). When in business attire your phone is on your hip or in your pocket, in either case inconveniently inaccessible when in the presence of others. It is nice to glance at your watch and see who is calling without the interruption of digging in your clothes. Very elegant to glance at your wrist and say “Excuse me I’m getting a call. Oh… it can wait… please go on, you were saying…”
The text message alert only works on Sony phones however. And even then all you get is an envelope icon, not the actual message.

  7. Not exactly a new thing – looks idetical to the original Fossil/SonyEricsson gear. I worked with Fossil/SE a million years ago on earlier versions of this. Ported the SE SW over so it worked with Palm OS Treo’s. I think I still have a setup kicking around in my office. Worked pretty well.

@Dave Rabb ThinkGeek says the watch can pair with phones using Bluetooth 2.0. Their information doesn’t say anything about pairing with iPods. You can contact them directly to ask about compatibility with iPods. If you Google Bluetooth watches, you’ll see that there are many watches with Bluetooth.

  9. @ Jackie Cheng. The SE MBW 150/200 works with almost every WM phone. You only have to install “smartWatchM”, on XDA developers. It even works with Android-phones then the app is called “openwatch”, on android market. SE has a new “watch” called “liveview” even more functions, works on Android many plug-ins.

  10. this seems to be a replica of the orignal thing mabe by SE and FOSSIL, wonder why has it been discontinued, I need to buy one of these, any idea where can I get one? or do I have to buy this replica as a last resort

  11. This is lame there is one for the blackberry that is super cool and works bought it for my dad.
The iPhone needs one just like it, it’s called the inpulse. Great little piece of equipment and it does everything, email, photos, caller ID, and the newer one allows you to read text messages.

  12. I’ve been using a BT watch for about 5 years, a Sonyericsson MBW-150, paired with a Windows Mobile phone, and free software, smartWatchM from Smartmadsoft, which gives me over 40 functions in the watch, including full SMS and mail reading capability (the entire text), countdown timer, chronograph timer, weather forecast, beyond the obvious vibration alert and music player control on the phone. Very, very impressive. Too bad SonyEricsson don’t market the watch anymore.

  13. Today the best alternative (I prefer analog watches) is the Motorola MotoACTV which is both BT connected to the phone, but also a music player, FM radio, WIFI connection, and has GPS, measurement of your pulse through the headset (!).

  14. The concept is great. I can see whos calling w/o taking my phone out, or when I am in meetings, so as not to be rude. I have the Thinkgeek watch and I love the OLED display on it. Very bright. Doesn’t have very good functionality with my Droid X, other than caller ID. I loved it so much, I also bought the Sony MBW 200 and MBW 150 Music. I love the open watch app, allows me to see my Gmail or SMS messages. Probably other apps as well.
    TG watch was $39
    MBW 200 was $59
    MBW 150 M was $69

IMHO, the concept is great. The watches look great as well. TG’s was kind of cheap looking strap. Definately worth the cash. The Music watch plays songs off my cell phone to my BT speakers or headset, shows me the tracks, I can control volume, etc….Cant beat it!
