If you are the outdoor type who likes to take along your iPod or iPhone, you’ll need a way to keep your device charged.  The Brunton Solaris i6 is a foldable solar charger that comes with an iPod charging cable.  It opens up to 29 X 9 inches and weighs 7.1 ounces.  It has four CIGS solar panels with a maximum output of 6 watts (15.4 volts/430 mA).  Order directly from Brunton for $208.40.  Dick’s Sporting Goods is offering it for $102.99.

Anyone know if this has a standard USB output or is the iPod plug hardwired in? It’d be ashamed if it were the later. Constantly boggled when manufacturers do that when they could accommodate multiple devices (and potential customers) by using a broader standards (USB) which would include the iPod as well as many other devices.

By the looks of the pictures and description it is an iPod only cable. There’s plenty of other solar chargers with USB out there, though.

Yes, it is iPod only. It’s just one of a line of other solar rechargers they sell at Brunton.

We have the Brunson Solar kit. There is an USB inverter (remember 12v down to 5v USB). It is sweet. We use it to run two ASUS eeePC 701′s out in the middle of a strawberry field. (we also have their battery kit) The Solar panels come with all the basic connections you would want. The “Cig Lighter” connection allows ANY car charger device to connect. So if you already have a USB/12v Car Charger adapter you are set. We have the 52watt version of the panel.
