ion-mixmeisterIf you are my age (erm… 29 and holding!!!), you probably have a bunch of old LPs and cassette tapes that hold music that means a lot to you.  Some of it may not even be available on iTunes or even on a cd.  If you’d like to have this music in mp3 format, check out the ion U RECORD device.  Simply connect the  U RECORD to your computer (works with Windows XP and Vista and Mac OS X 10.4 or higher) with the included usb cable, connect your turntable or cassette player directly to the U RECORD with RCA connectors, and import your music directly to iTunes.  The U RECORD has a pre-amp, so you don’t need any other home stereo equipment.  Included software says it will even help you edit out noise.  It’s $49.95 directly from ion; they also have a list of retailers that sell ion products.  You can even buy it at Amazon.com and on QVC for $39.72.  Give yourself a gift this holiday!

  2. Amazing! Just this morning I was looking at my box full of cassette tapes and wondering how I could patch my high-priced cassette player into my computer. I decided I needed (1) a pre-amp and (2) a cable with RCA connectors at one end and USB at the other. This MixMeister is just the ticket!

I already have an AudioTechnica record player. It is beautiful. I think it is a better machine than the Ion LP player. The Ion has a plastic turntable, and the AudioTechnica has an aluminum turntable. And a dust cover. Best software for editing songs is free: Audacity.
