I can rip my DVDs to my portable HDD and bring my whole library along with me. This was great when I went to Lake Tahoe with a bunch of kids last year. I had lots of movies to keep them occupied. I got that for my mom. The remote and even the menu system/layout is exactly the same. The WD one only supports USB drives.
