iphone-slipper-1The Phone Slipper is the second product that I have reviewed that allows you to combine your iPhone and your wallet. People like me who don’t like to carry a lot of items with us when we are out and about love this stuff. I have been using the Case-Mate ID case since reviewing it and was happy to try an alternative. Let’s see if the Phone Slipper has turned out to be my new favorite iPhone wallet case.

Unlike the Case-Mate ID case, the Phone Slipper is a soft Black silicone skin instead of a hard plastic case. It’s pretty much like most silicone iPhone skins that you may have used before. This one isn’t the best quality as you can see from the excess material along the cutout edges.

The iPhone slips easily into the skin. There are cutouts for all the necessary areas of the phone.

The Left side has a small cutout for the mute button and then a rubber button that covers the volume rocker switch below it.

The Right side shows the slit in the skin that enables this case to be used as a wallet.

The bottom of the skin has a large cutout for the speakers and docking connector.

While the top has a opening for the earphone jack and a rubber button that covers the power button.

As you can see so far, the Phone Slipper works like most skin cases. The only difference is the slit cut into the right side. And really, that’s all it is, just a slit. Since the skin is stretchy, you just slide a few cards (3 plastic credit cards seem to work pretty well for me) through the slit. That’s it. To remove the cards, you’re supposed to use the circular cutout to push them up and out of the opening. I wasn’t able to get this to work very well. My fingers would just slide over the plastic cards and not move them at all. Instead, I would just pull the silicone slit down with my finger and grab the edge of the card. This doesn’t work very well either since the case is pretty tight. The Case-Mate ID case is much easier to use in that regard.

I have to tell you that I have never been a big fan of silicone skins. Why?

Because they look nasty as soon as you take them out of the packaging. Take a look at the image above. See all the lint stuck to the skin? This is after being in my jacket pocket for less than 1hr total. Ick. What I find humorous is that the Phone Slipper website has this quote on their front page:

The Phone Slipper, designed to keep your phone safe with its rugged material and design. Engineered to keep your ID, Credit Cards and Cash secure and in place. Manufactured with the best materials available to keep your phone well protected against dings, scratches and lint.

Hmmm, maybe if you use it in a clean room at Intel…

When it comes down to it, the Phone Slipper is a silicone skin type iPhone case that will protect your phone from every day bumps and scratches while also providing a method of carrying a few credit cards along with it. The price is decent at around $10. If you don’t mind lint, it will help you minimize the items you carry with you. I think I’ll continue to use the Case-Mate.

  2. I like the idea of a phone skin/wallet. But considering that every hotel I go to tells me to keep the electronic key card away from cell phones (especially the iPhone), I’ve been afraid to put any type of credit card with a magnetic strip near my iPhone.

Is there something I’m missing that makes some credit cards safe from the magnetic fields?

    1. @Sandee I remember this question being asked about the Case-Mate wallet case and according them, there is no need to worry. I’ve had my credit card next to my iPhone on numerous occasions have yet to notice a problem.
