I am a Senior, not to up on gadgets like this PVR. Can it be used with my LG TV set? And if it can not be programmed to record ahead of time, what other choices do I have?
Appreciate any help you can offer an "old fart".

is there another scheduler for the Hauppauge HD PVR? the win tv one requires a win tv box to operate. I only need to recorn from a camera and when schedualed program starts, the message "IR Blaster is not operational" "OK", and it wont start recording unless your there to click "OK".

I just installed a direct TV DVR and connected this to the Hauppauge HD PVR through the component inputs and an optical digital audio output. The captured image on my screen has light bars rolling up (macrovision?). I thought this was only supposed to be an issue with an HDMI connection?

This is mostly a recording device. You can watch tv but it will be displayed in a window like the second screen shot. If you want to watch tv on your computer and have some recording functionality I would recommend a usb tv tuner like this one, or something similar.
http://the-gadgeteer.com/2009/08/31/kworld-usb-atsc-tv-stick-review/
its a much cheaper option if your not focused on recording in hd and creating dvds out of your recordings.

This review has a lot of info on recording, but what if I just want to watch TV on my computer screen without recording. Can that be done on this device? And if so, is the window re-sizeable?

Yeah, you could use a USB TV Tuner stick but you will only get OTA (over the air) channels and won't be able to record encoded channel signals that your set-top box decodes. This means you will only have access to a very limited subset of basic channels (depending on what your cable companies decide to offer decrypted).

I have one of these. I use mine with a Mac/Eyetv. Ive never used it to schedule recording, but to capture video from external HD sources. I was pretty happy with its performance under eyetv. But what with the availability of online content in HD, its has set idle. It can be connected to any component out device.
