Note - this only works in the UK and selected other countries. Canada is explicitly mentioned as not supported. Canada's in the same boat as most African countries, save two which support the Kindle without the wireless agreement...

Yup. Amazon hates Canada still, given that they're selling the Kindle without wireless support in some African nations but not to their nearest neighbour.

Ahhh, NO -- that would require two different radios in the new International Kindle -- Sprint and AT&T use different technology.
Further a review of the Tech Spech on each device shows:

Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6" Display, U.S. Wireless, Latest Generation)
Connectivity: EVDO modem with fallback to 1xRTT; utilizes Amazon Whispernet to provide U.S wireless coverage via Sprint's 3G high-speed data network. Check our wireless coverage map for availability. This expanded coverage is only available for Kindle. See Wireless Terms and Conditions.

Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6" Display, U.S. & International Wireless, Latest Generation)
Connectivity: HSDPA modem (3G) with a fallback to EDGE/GPRS; utilizes Amazon Whispernet to provide wireless coverage via AT&T's 3G high-speed data network in the U.S. and partner networks outside of the U.S. See Wireless Terms and Conditions.

These can easily be seen on Amazon.

It's still Sprint in US, only uses AT&T's roaming agreement when international.

Also keep in mind that Kindle buyers now have the choice....
The original K2 rides on Sprint's network, the new International K2 will ride on AT&T's network when connected domestically.
