FOLLOW-UP: My iPod use declined drastically over the years as my cell phone filled the gap, and this unit did not work well with either the Blackberry or the touch-screen Android.

However, my wife uses it often to listen to her library audio books, especially the new 'mini-players' the library is offering now. It lets her play the books at a comfortable volume when she is driving.

At 2.4" thick, it would fit in a large cargo pocket, but not the pockets on most slacks.

Major- if you could hear your phone over plain headphones, then certainly. Some of the reviews I have seen for it with the iPhone, the users seem to carry the iPhone facing in, apparently to protect the buttons? But it does seem to work nicely with iPhones.
