Reader Michelle Pain sent this in: The Kensington Nightstand Charging Dock turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into a handy bedside clock. The right angle dock holds your device in landscape mode using a kickstand to clearly display the time. A free application features a clock that doesn’t go into sleep mode. It has an optional screen dimming setting as well as weather info. It’s available for pre-order for $39.99. I just downloaded the app and can probably rig up a free alternative :)

Yeah, kind of lame that they claim a free app as a differentiating feature for what amounts to a $40 iPhone charger. Let us know if you come up with anything good to fake it. ;)

Perfect for knocking over in the middle of the night, or when you mindlessly try to hit snooze. cracking the screen in either case.

@tamaracks All it takes is one of those AC adapters that you can plug a USB cable into. Just plug in the USB cable that came with the iPhone / iPod Touch and you’re good to go. As for the stand, there are a bazillion of them out there, or create one yourself from LEGOs or and old iPod dock :) — the free clock app works in portrait mode too.

Think positive – it’s the first flip-style clock app for free!

As for the stand, a standard clothes pin (the european variety, spring loaded) will do just nicely. Or LEGO (Julie, I like the idea. Still have a huge box in the attic). Or anything.

@Don Holt Not bad! BTW: Kensington is going to send me the NightStand. We’ll see how if it’s worth it…
