@cyberg00se I don't have any real ties with this company other than as Buzz Corps, they have included me on a couple of nice contests (from which my readers have benefited). They asked me if I would post about their contest and I did. Nuff said. Some how I think that you might have submitted an entry to that contest and didn't win as you sound like a sore loser... BTW: the winning entry isn't the one I liked best. I voted for the 2nd place winner. :)

Please stop endorsing these no spec contests. They're a cheap way for a company to get some nice work without having to pay for it. Artists have no chance to really guess what the client wants. Do companies hire employees, or do they have people walk in from the street to compete for prizes as to who does the best work? It's the same thing.

I know you're a fan of using them yourself, but you'd get results from hiring someone based on their portfolio. Go to some forums where lots of designers hang out, and see how well they respond to "let's have a contest to see who can draw me the best logo!" Yeah, you'll be flamed out of there.

If you want this partner company to have a nice logo, you'd do better than to recommend to them to hire someone, rather than lure your readers into a contest they have little chance of winning because they aren't mind readers. Is your loyalty more to your readers, or more to this company?

I just visited the ivy worldwide website and saw the top 3 finishers. Really nice showing from the designers who entered the contest. I'm kicking myself because I missed the survey to help pick the winners from the fave 16. I would've liked to have seen what the other 13 hopefuls looked like. Maybe you could ask the folks at Ivy to include a gallery of the also-rans? Pretty please =).
