GOG.COM offers a unique service you might be interested in. They have taken a lot of very popular older games and recycled them into neat little executable packages that you can play all over again. Most range in price from $5.99 to $9.99. I’ve tried a few of these over the last few months and I’ve been very pleased.

All four that I’ve bought have installed and run on my Vista laptop , my son’s XP desktop, and my Windows 7 Beta desktop. What’s even better is all of the games are DRM free, you buy it, you own it, and you can install them on your different PC’s. So if you’re dying to play that old game you lost the CD to, or looking for something other than solitaire that you can play on your laptop, give them a try.

  2. @ David: How’s the gameplay speed? I remember awhile ago I tried to play the original Grand Theft Auto which was made for like a 486 machine on a Pentium 4 computer and the results was that the gameplay speed was so fast that I don’t even have time to respond. It’s like I can drive around the whole city in under 30 seconds.

  3. @Jackie, I had a similar problem with a very old Edios game I got to run on XP one time, it was comical except for the fact it was one of my favorite games. I’m not sure of all the details but GOG has repackaged the games to run abosultely fine, in my experience, on current PC’s. And I tested 3 different machines on 3 different operating systems. I bought Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and Redneck Rampage, all worked perfectly. Good Luck, give us an update if you try something. Thanks!
