The Insect Repellent Hat from Hammacher Schelmmer has an odorless EPA-registered repellent permethrin bonded into the fabric. I know this isn’t really a gadget, but it can definitely be useful to any gadget lovin geek who happens to live in an area with insects that they want to repell. From their head. I’m just sayin.

  2. I just wanted to mention that this is in fact a TILLEY hat. Tilley Endurables out of Canada makes the best hats in the world and stands by them with an OUTSTANDING warranty. They are insured for LIFE against wearing out. You get a single frayed string? Well send it back and they’ll replace it. How about LOSING IT ENTIRELY? Well they’ll sell you a new one at half price – all on your word. I had the misfortune of losing my beloved Tilley Hemp Hat (wide brim, mocha brown) and they surely took great care of me – even though my registration card apparently didn’t reach them!

Take a look at their complete line if you’d like a hat – but don’t need the insect repellent added:

  3. Hey, I live in Northern Idaho. This is not a gadget, it’s a necessity. …getting out the credit card…

  4. I have several Tilley Hats. Never forget the fine mesh pullover for blackfly protection or for travel to Malaria prone areas! I loaded up my son with bugoff clothes before a month in the woods with Outward Bound. They worked very well.
