EUREKA! we have found a solution.

You need an external monitor that is capable of higher resolution, which is almost any monitor. Plug the monitor up via VGA cord to the HP MINI and chenge the view to only project on the VGA monitor (hit the F4 Key). Now that the resouliton is much hugher, you can start the CS3 install with no hiccups. After the install, remove the VGA cord and revert back to the HP MINI's screen (F4 Key) and launch the software. Violla, you have CS3 working perfectly fine!

Enjoy!

Please repost anywhere that ppl are having this issue.

I have a MSI Wind U100 and I hackintoshed it. So far so good only complaint is the screen is kinda small and the touchpad is kinda ehh.... But other than that it makes a great Macbook Mini... or Lite

MSI Winds are awesome btw.... great keyboard and all. The HP Mini is nice but still prefer the MSI Wind

Also anyone know how to install Chameleon? Cause I'm using the ISO image (MSIWindosx86.iso) that is put into a 4GB partition (using Leopard HD Install Helper) as a bootloader.... using the Darwin x86 bootloader. But there's this 5-second thing where it boots to the installer (since it's the installer's bootloader).... I really don't like that... since everytime I restart a PC I usually leave to get something...

Hi Dave,
Great review. I just picked up a Compaq mini 110 (which i believe is the same as the hp). I'll be hackintoshing it shortly, but just wanted to know...how's the SwitchResX working for you? I need to use a music software that requires 1024 x 768, and being able to convert to this resolution will be a make or break deal for me. Please let me know, thanks!!

Is there a reason why the HP Mini 1000 runs extremely slow while using Windows Xp SP3? Sometime there is a 1 second lag while browsing the internet.

I've just purchased an HP Mini 110 and I sure wish it were possible to do this without sacrificing the audio and the ethernet. The keyboard and overall design of the HP minis work much better for me than those of any other netbook I could find on the market. Physically they are close to ideal.

I am so interested in doing this with my HP Mini as well. I was curious if you could give any guidance on which version you got to install. I have tried a few and never had any luck and was curious if you had any real specs on it :) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mikel

for audio to work on the HP Mini... copied this from myhpmini.com, they have great tutorials and discussion threads:

Follow this link to download voodoohda.kext.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=161638

Make sure to uninstall azalia or applehda before isntalling this kext. Mic still doesn't work and audio resets when it wakes from sleep/reboot/shutdown but at least you have audio.

I have installed this on my HP Mini 1137NR.

Hope this works for you.

I'm writing this on a mini i've converted into a hackintosh.

It's the only laptop PC that i've ever bought (usually a mac guy) but i really like the netbook form factor. I've installed 10.5.5 and i find it runs much more stable than the other two OS's i tried, the preinstalled XP sp2, which i'm quite used to, and the ubuntu netbook remix, (jaunty) which i expected alot more from.

As it stands with the netbook remix, i can have sound or wifi, depending on the kernel. I know there is a way to get wifi back with the newer kernel, but i gave up after a week.

I got the hackintosh operational in under 2.5 hours after the downloads (i do own several retail 10.5.4 disks)

I have sound, wifi, webcam, accelerated graphics, sadly it was easier to do all this with a "hacked" os. It's easily twice as responsive as it was under ubuntu, and roughly the same (although i feel xp was slower) than xp.

there is nothing to fear here, if you've ever used top instead of activity monitor.

Hi, just recently a friend told me about hackintosh-i'm not a big tech fan so all this, even though it's been around for some time, is all new to me. Just wanted to ask if by any chance you're putting up a site with a step by step instruction on how to "hackintosh-ize" a HP mini 1000? I'd happily pay for the knowhow :) Hope to hear from you, and great work with your hackintosh-ing skills!

I've been looking at the HP mini 1000 for a few days and I am wanting to go to a hackintosh version, but with the mention of the ethernet and audio drivers, I am now unsure. Has anyone had any luck in addressing the driver issues associated to the mini 1000?

i want it all... do you have a hint for a bootloader which is able to handle lets say 2windows (32 & 64 bit) 2 linux (ubuntu & suse/fedora) and a hackintosh. (not talking about a sunos)

i want one! (one with a little bit of usability, one which is able to be used by a computer professional, which has not spent his whole live on studiing undocumented bootoptions...

Hi Dave! Interesting project. I've been dabbling with the hackintosh project for some time now, my MSI Wind is running OS X Leopard really great.
Now I bought an HP Mini 1000 and tried booting off with one of the customer DVD's downloaded from the net for this. But I always get stuck at this line:
MAC framework successfully initialized using 5242 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

Did you experience the same problem? What installation DVD did you use exactly?

I'd appreciate it if you'd send me an email. Thanks in advance for your help.

shkermaker: For the same reason people have lived with Windows for the past 20 years - because even with the disadvantages, they worked better than much of the competition at the time, and they're everywhere. Now if Apple would capitalize on that market of people who want smaller, lighter (if less capable) Macs which don't cost more than a regular MacBook, they'd have another market locked down pretty fast... just as they have with the music player market, even though Creative and others came out with hard-drive based players before the iPod.

Haesslich - I'm not arguing that Apple should design a solution like the newer range of netbooks, all i'm pointing out is that from the reviews i've read Hackintoshing creates issues such as power management issues, driver problems and other hardware related headaches for devices that havent been designed for Mac OS. Why have a device where some of the features just wont work?

shkermaker - until Apple acknowledges that there's a market for ultra-mobile computing that the Air doesn't QUITE cover (being somewhat more expensive and a little larger than some laptops, much less notebooks), 'hackintoshes' are about the only ultra-mobile Apple experiences we'll see short of a revival of the Newton-style PDA/tablet Mac.

Still, of all the netbooks out there, the HP Mini 1000 and 2140 are probably the best-looking of the bunch, without looking 'cheap' the way the Aspire One or some of the Eee's do. They seem to have taken design cues from Apple's designers regarding the elegance of simplicity and the virtues of not having stickers all over the place.
