Jeff,

I believe we're talking different sabers here. The hilts of the lightsabers I am ordering are made of a thick, polished metal and precision machined to fit together. The electronics within are a much higher grade than the typical plastic lightsaber. A 3 or 5 watt LED is used to light the blade of the saber. The blade (aka battle blade) is made of an ultra strong 1/8" thick polycarbonate engineered to 'do battle'. My hope is that what we receive is many times better than the typical plastic lightsaber you find @ ToysRUs and even better than the FX lightsabers.

They have this exact product at Disneyland at the shop just outside the Star Tours ride. It is a wall of bins with illustrations on the wall that describe what to use and how to assemble them. I built two of them using every different part available. The crystals they provide offer different sound options when they are inserted, and there are also different colored filters to insert that will allow you to change the color of the beam. They have a telescoping plastic tube beam that is very durable, and the sounds are pretty cool when two of them impact one another. They provided batteries at the cashier and showed that they were working perfectly. My kids really enjoyed them, I thought they were a little too plastic for my taste...and the price. Still kinda cool though!

Please bring on the geeky (cool) toy reviews. The light sabre program for the iPhone tweaked my interest; if only it had light to go along with the sound.

Yes, things can be both geeky and cool... but some people are afraid to be too geeky. Me, I fully embrace my geekiness :)
