HP and Microsoft Windows Live have chosen The Gadgeteer along with 49 other great sites, to be part of their HP Magic Giveaway contest. Each site is giving away a huge prize package that includes 4 computers, a media receiver, a printer and software (detailed list below). Most people don’t need 4 computers, so the winner is heavily encouraged to share the magic with their family, friends or those less fortunate.

See all the entries so far.

Now it’s time to put your creativity cap on and enter our contest…

You knew that you were going to have to do a little work for my contest, right? Don’t worry though, it should be fun work…

How to enter – Read carefully

1. Create a completely original piece of gadget inspired techie artwork that includes the word gadgeteer somewhere in it in a clever way. The artwork can be a painting, a drawing, a sculpture, a carving, whatever you might consider to be art. The sky is the limit, but please be as creative as possible (Tip: Something made from physical objects is preferred over a photoshopped image).

2. Take one digital picture of your artwork. Make sure the image is at least 1024×768 resolution. Images smaller than 1024×768 will be disqualified.

3. Email your image to [email protected]

4. In the subject line of the email type: HP Magic Giveaway

5. In the body of the email type a short description of your artwork. By short, I mean 10 sentences or less.

6. I will be putting all the entries up on my flickr stream, so you’ll all be able to enjoy them and see your competition.

Rules and Restrictions

1. This contest is open to anyone on the planet except for family and friends of myself and regular contributors to this site.

2. Enter as often as you like, but each entry must be a completely different piece of artwork.

3. Email your entries to me by 12/08/08 Noon EST.

4. A winner will be chosen by me and announced sometime later in the day on 12/08/08.

Contest Tips

1. Be creative! Although you are free to create your artwork digitally, I’ll probably be more likely to choose something that has been created out of physical objects or done without the aid of a computer / photoshop.

2. Be really creative!

3. Impress me with your creativity!

  2. Hi Julie,

I am excited about entering this contest, but I have a few questions. Can I do the painting/design digitally? I have a Wacom Bamboo and don’t have any art supplies with me at the moment. And if I am allowed to do this digitally, would I have to print my image out and take a picture of it, or could I just send my artwork in?

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  3. Kerry:

As long as your artwork is completely original, you can use any method that you like to create it. I just need a picture of it as your entry. If you create your artwork digitally, then just send me a .jpg.

  4. So, the artist that you choose as the winner will for certain win this site’s prize package? It seems like a lot of prize money to give to 50 blogs.

Or do you mean the art winner will advance to a drawing? …a “chance” to win the prize package?

  5. I hope you like(d) mine. It was really fun to make, although it’s a totally different kind of art. If I’m lucky this won’t count against me! I would like instead for that to go towards originality. Mine is the one that came with a bonus PDF and another type of file so details would be more clear (I would just spell it out, but I don’t want to give away what I did =P). And it’s 100% original of course. 🙂

  6. What about a short video? (Within Flickr video spec).

If so i can upload it to my site and include link in email so you can download it to upload it (Sounds complicated i know lol)

  7. Hello Julie,

I have just sent you my entry.. Hope you like it.. It’s inspired by my source for entertainment over the years.

    Thanks!

  8. I have sent the images, but i also sent a video link on youtube so you can get the full perspective because it is so large, i had a small area where i was doing it(had to take pic 4ft away from it) and my cameras wide angle..well, is nonexistant. Also sent a photoshopped version where I added the sides together to make it look similar to the actual piece. I hope you like it.

  9. You must be having a good time enjoying the enties Julie madam. There’s already some excellent entries as we can see. 🙂

  10. I love contests like these because I have so much fun everytime I check my email and see that someone has sent in another entry. It will be difficult to choose a winner tomorrow.

  15. Hi Julie, was just wondering if the entry description is a huge part of the criteria? Because it just occurred to me that I had gone into the project knowing what I wanted to say but when I wrote up the email to send with the Artwork I changed talking points. (The Art thankfully stayed spot on)

  16. Lloyd:

No, the description is not going to be what causes me to pick or not pick an entry as a winner. All emphasis will be in the actual entry image and how much effort I feel that went into it, creativity, fun, cool factor, how the word gadgeteer was integrated, etc. etc.

  17. Thanks Julie,

I hope you’re feeling better and we’re not working you too hard-there are a lot of nice entries vying for the top spot. I hope you enjoy judging all them later, take care.

  18. Hi Julie, i have completed my artwork, it’s a big artwork and has intricate letters which will not be readable in camera shot, can i send a printer scan alongwidth with camera shots?..plz reply fast..coz time is running out 🙂
