The SH505 is actually on sale right now for $25 (+$3.95 shipping). I figured for that price I can't go wrong if it breaks and I have to put up with a wait to get it replaced. I couldn't resist the temptation for a new toy!

Update:

Received the headset and installed the software. It was all quick and easy. Sound is clear (on both side) and the headset looks good too. The headset comes with an ear loop but I can use it without it. Also in the box is both a USB cable to connect to your computer (and charge from any USB device) and an AC charger which is a plus - you probably would only get one or the other with another headset. The Southwing paired up quickly and easily with my Blackberry 8300 and I was tallking in seconds after charging it up.

I think the touch-sensitive volume controls on my headset don't work (I haven't tried with another phone yet). The only way to change the volume on my headset is to use the software or to just change the volume on the phone. This headset may also be discontinued by Southwing (which is why the price is so good). I don't see the headset on thier site.

Compared to my other headset (a Soyo Freestyler) this one is MUCH better. The Soyo had a very large blinking LED that I ended up painting over . This headset is much more stylish and the light is unobtrusive.

I would recommend picking one of these up for a bargain price if you want to gamble on getting a good headset. Quality seems suspect based on the headset reviewed breaking and the one I received not having working "touch sensitive" volume control.

At highway speeds the SC310 did a good job with road noise in a Chev Silverado & Ford Excursion. It did a decent job in a Honda Accord (which had the most road noise). People on the other end seemed to hear me pretty well in all the vehicles. In the Honda, high speed (70mph) road noise made it difficult for me to hear folks who talk softly (one person) on their cellphone.

It was not in the way in the Silverado or Excursion but had to be moved towards me (to the left) to not be in the way of the gear shifter. The adjustable cable makes it easy to place the mic/speaker head just where you want it. It all depends on the layout & spacing of your car.

All that being said, if road noise, space, or gear shifter are issues you might want to look @ the Jabra SP5050 BT which goes on your sun visor. I have never played with one. But the concept of closer proximity and portability are appealing.

Hope this helps

Dave,
Did any of the cars you teseted it it have a LOT of road noise? The car I have is normally quiet, but when I get on a high speed interstate (Yeah, 75 in Indiana!) the road noise get's a little loud, and I want to make sure people can hear me.

Also, I noticed in one picure you it was near a gear shifter. Did it get in the way???

Thanks,
