Ordered four of the stainless steel bottles and returned one that was shipped with a dent. There were clear typewritten instructions requesting a replacement. In response someone left me a voice message asking if I'd like them to "thump" out the dent and send me the same bottle. When I called back and got Guyot' s voice mail I reiterated the request for a replacement. Nothing. It's been months. I am dissatisfied. It's definitely overpriced if you get only 3 for the cost of 4.

Thanks for the great review and the wonderful photos :). Here are a couple of other considerations for all the bottles Guyot markets and some other steel bottles. I’m a rock/alpine/ice climber so some of the points come from my experiences there.

Bonus

-Steel might get dinged, scratched or smudged, but it’s not likely to crack. Ergo, it will probably last longer than you will, so it’s sustainable.

-The steel Guyot uses is thicker than that used by others in this market (i.e. Klean Kanteen) so their bottles probably won’t get dinged as much or as quickly.

-The design of the nylon cord is load bearing so you can clip your loaded bottle to other stuff without worrying about it breaking, and unlike bottles with a clip point in the lid, the bottle is still attached when you take the lid off. (A minor point for most, but climbers will find this to be a bonus. :) )

-You can, in a pinch, use this over an open flame to warm liquids

-The steel used in these bottles is completely inert, thus avoiding any problems with toxic materials leaching into what you drink. :x (See the recent debate on problems with polycarbonates – i.e. nalgene bottles - doing this.)

-Because this steel is inert, you can put any materials in this and completely clean it so that no odors or flavors remain (think alcohol ;) or highly acidic liquids). Polycarbonates, like lexan, mostly avoid this problem but may still leach chemical compounds. The soft plastics (e.g. HDPE) cannot overcome this problem.

Bummer:

-Steel is heavier than plastic (but you could bludgeon the Blair Witch with these bottles even when empty :wow: )

-Steel will “sweat” more than plastics when filled with cold liquids

-Steel may not be the best material to put your lips on when it gets REALLLY cold :p

-You probably don’t want to add really hot stuff in there either

-They cost more...

For most applications I've become a convert. The safety and sustainability of these bottles trumps any other concerns. I might use something else for ice climbing in Alberta in February, but for the rest of the time I'm sold on steel.

Cheers

1st Thought: HOW COOL!

2nd Thought: The Gription is a $13 item to turn my drinking bottle into a typical Convenience Store Tanker cup...

3rd Thought:... and for a lot less than the Firefly's $22, I can buy some small chemical light sticks to decorate my water bottles...

4th Thought:... and 'The Lid' at $9 really is not that major of an upgrade on my bottle's normal lid...

5th Thought:... and the stainless steel Standard Bottle at $21 really isn't even as nice as the Nissan or other stainless bottles that are insulated for the same basic price...

6th Thought:... BUT I want them ANYWAY!
