I got my insignia dvd player a couple days ago replacing the one i had for nearly a year and cherished greatly as a security guard working long nights out in the pit so to speak.

anyways it broke and the guys down to futureshop replaced it with the new swivel version and so far ive been having 3 problems

first one i replaced it with had a stuck cell, easily replaced again. while playing the movie hot fuzz i noticed that the new dvd player is quite noisy when spinning the disc compared to my old one i had over a year ago.

also it may be just this model but it overheats extremely quickly. for a 2 hour movie i had it placed in my lap and it seems to heat up quite quickly, which as a security guard can be quite bothersome as i watch quite a bit of movies during the slow hours of the night.

I think this time ill send my dvd player back to the manufacturer instead of to futureshop to see if i can get an older model as i have a smaller case(which was used for the older 10.2 inch non-swivel model) and it doesnt fit this model making it difficult for transport.

anyone else have these problems that ive had?

Really nice, and works well, too!... Only problem is: something happened to my battery, and now it won't recharge...although the player is still working on AC power.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get a replacement for the faulty battery?...

BTW, it lasted two years, since I bought it from a NJ visit, in 2006.

AndyCheng:

You were right. The monitor button does show the the brightness and color adjustment options. I don't know what happened when I tried it last night... Anyway, I've updated the review to reflect this information. Thanks for pointing it out! :)

AndyCheng:

I could have swore that when I pressed the Monitor button that the screen blanked. I was thinking that this was to allow for an external TV hookup. I'll have to try again tonight and update my review if need be.

Nice review. I have an earlier model of this unit and I agree the discs sound awful when they are spinning up or changing tracks. I have to disagree with you on one point. The unit does have a brightness control. The monitor button on the unit activates an electronic set of controls. The owners manual has it listed on page 18. Mine is the same way. It also adjusts for color as well.

I like the rotating screen. Gives you more viewing options. Overall I am pleased with my Insignia DVD player. They seem to be well built and a good value.
