As long as the hard drive has been formatted using FAT32 and not NTFS (XP) or HFS (Mac) you'll be fine. :) You can copy to and fro as you please.

Hi,

I noted that in the review the author transfered data from an iMac to the MviX. I too own a Mac and have been told that "you cannot transfer" data from a Mac as it is not compatable!!! I assumed the system acts like an external USB hard drive that is not specific to either operating systems. I want an MviX but also want to be able to use it with a Mac. Any Thoughts??? Thanks

I contacted japan direct and Dynamism, they both want $450 to ship a $215 product. For 400, I can get a whole PC, and expand it without limits. Hopefully someone with Japan contacts wil respond to this thread and I will get my hands on this NAS.. some interesting notes on this NAS below; the GLANTANK is very customaizable, not your ordinary NAS.

GLAN Tank as a HDD video recorder
http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://journal.mycom.co.jp/articles/2006/04/22/glantank/001.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dg-lan%2Btank%2Breview%26start%3D20%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN%26pwst%3D1

Load an iEPG onto your GLANTANK to record TV:
http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://w3.quake3.jp/sushi-k/index.php%3Fitemid%3D388&prev=/search%3Fq%3D402u%2Btank%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D

Ahh, XBMC....

I have gone down the path of buying an XBMC solution because I was tired of waiting for a good h.264 capable unit [for a reasonable price].

The XBOX has a huge software community [100k users] and plays almost anything you can throw at it [not good with HD, but I don't care]. The whole thing cost me about $170 for everything I need to play IPTV content, which appears to be mostly supported in the current XBMC 1.1.0.

RSS is supported and growing everyday so I can simply click and stream my favorite IPTV shows. My cable company's video feed has it's days numbered.

http://www.productwiki.com/microsoft_xbox/article/how_to_go_from_xbox_to_xbox_media_center_in_30_minutes.html

I still want the G-LAN Tank as my NAS because there is simply no reasonably priced XSCALE competition in the USA.

flamaest:
You might want to email the folks at Dynamism ( http://www.dynamism.com ). They might be able to help you order something from Japan.

Tell me about the XBMC.

Julie,

Good review, very detailed. I finally went with XBMC myself.

Question.. Do you have any friends in Japan that could ship one of these units below to me?

http://www.ioplaza.jp/shop/goods/goods.aspx?goods=10-SOTOHDLGW-001&affiliate=060227TT2

I have been looking to buy a GLANTANK everywhere with no luck.

Thanks You!
