I just wanted to note that I bought what is the exact same device here in Germany but it came with a hard drive and is known as the TEAC Show Me Player. I have none of the issues you have. The only issue I have is that some of the newer DIVX stuff it says is not supported but TEAC says that they are going to support it for firmware upgrades. The proof is in the pudding as they say though in that the firmware is over a year old as well.
